Billing Specialist

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

• Liaise between facilities (clients) and various third-party insurance carriers 
• Submit clean claims accurately to third-party payers onto billing software 
• Follow-up on electronic and paper claims for assigned accounts; manage denials and follow-ups on unpaid or rejected claims 
• Establish patients’ current insurance information; observe strict confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations
• Adapt to changes in a positive manner, giving constructive feedback. Work as an effective team member, collaborating with other disciplines in the provision of care 
• Identify performance improvement opportunities and participate in quality improvement endeavors
• Attend assigned and/or mandatory in-services and meetings; read and initial meeting minutes if absent 

Minimum Requirements

KNOWLEDGE

• High school diploma required; college degree preferred 
• Two years’ experience in medical billing OR hospital billing, OR two years’ working knowledge of insurance companies and policies 
• Working knowledge of medical billing/collection practices 
• Familiar with EMR (electronic medical records) systems such as (Kipu, Best Notes, Alleva)
• Proficient with MS Office Suite (spreadsheets, word processing, email, etc.) 

SOFT-SKILLS

• Enjoys working in a collaborative environment 
• Works with a sense of duty – values strong attention to detail 
• Works with a sense of urgency as these documents are often time-sensitive 
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain organized 
• Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication 
• A desire to help people in a meaningful way
