Title: Accounts Receivable Specialist

Full-Time · REMOTE · Pay Rate: 20-$24/hour + 

Purpose: The A/R Specialist will strategize solutions to ensure timely and accurate processing of claims, appeals, and denials.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Liaise between facilities (clients) and various third-party insurance carriers and clearinghouses; identify and resolve systematic issues in an accurate and timely manner 
  • Evaluate payments/denials received and ensure claims are escalated with respective insurance companies correctly
  • Collect and submit data to identify patterns of intervention that result in desired patient outcomes
  • Provide feedback to management based on research and calls to payers to establish payer behavior trends
  • Employ broad knowledge of insurance plans, medical terminology, billing procedures, government regs., & medical codes
  • Observe confidentiality of patient information and HIPAA regulations 
  • Deal directly with highly sensitive accounts and exercise good judgment in solving complex situations
  • Review A/R daily to ensure reimbursement goals are maintained and achieved 
  • Continuously looks for areas to maximize claim reimbursements 
  • Identify performance improvement opportunities and participate in quality improvement endeavors
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with peers, and facilities; follow appropriate communication channels through organizational structure 
  • Adapt to changes in a positive manner, giving constructive feedback; work as an effective team member, collaborating with other disciplines in the provision of care 

Minimum Requirements

KNOWLEDGE

  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred 
  • Two years’ experience in medical billing OR hospital billing, OR two years’ experience working directly with substance abuse and/or mental health treatment centers
  • Working knowledge of insurance companies and policies

SOFT-SKILLS

  • Familiar with EMR (electronic medical records) systems such as (Kipu, Best Notes, Alleva)
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (spreadsheets, word processing, email, etc.) 
  • Enjoys working in a collaborative environment 
  • Works with a sense of duty – values strong attention to detail 
  • Works with a sense of urgency as these documents are often time-sensitive 
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain organized 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication 
  • A desire to help people in a meaningful way
