Hansei Celebrates National Leadership Day 2024

A central idea in Japanese culture, Hansei means acknowledging one’s mistakes and making improvements going forward. Much like this principle, Hansei Solutions’ mission is to reflect on the past, learn from mistakes, and commit to doing better in the future. Behind such a powerful message is a group of hard-working and dedicated leaders – striving to keep going and do better every day. This year, for National Leadership Day, Hansei is shining a light on its leaders and the impact they have made within the industry.

What is National Leadership Day?

Each year, National Leadership Day falls on February 20th. This day is about honoring and recognizing the hard work, dedication, and influence of those who carry a leadership title – whether it is in business, politics, education, or another industry. National Leadership Day is an opportunity to show appreciation and gratitude for those who make important decisions and guide others toward success.

Meet Hansei’s Leaders

This year, for National Leadership Day, Hansei would like to showcase its team of visionary leaders who embody the ethos that the growth of any company is intricately linked with the growth of people. These leaders make Hansei more than a workplace – their unwavering commitment to the company’s core values is complimented by their passion for positively impacting those they serve. They encourage their teams to bring their whole selves to work, fostering genuine care for their colleagues, Hansei clients, and the patients our clients serve.

Meet our leaders and their words of wisdom for National Leadership Day:

Erin Burke

Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Hansei

Fearless, innovative, and dedicated, Erin embodies the true spirit of ‘hansei’. Her humble leadership inspires our team to do better and be better by embracing new challenges, encouraging our team to try new things, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Erin founded Hansei in 2016 to help addiction and substance use companies leverage technology to improve inefficiencies in their revenue cycle management. She has nearly 15 years of experience in healthcare business engineering, with the majority in revenue cycle management. Her engineering management role with Ohio State University Medical Center helped prepare her to address the unique challenges and requirements that healthcare companies face.

Erin serves on the Board of Directors for the Didi Hirsch Foundation, which provides free mental health, substance use disorder, and suicide prevention services. She is an active committee member for the Addiction Treatment Advocacy Coalition. She received her bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering from The Ohio State University and is actively involved with Young Presidents Organization and the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers.

Jessica Cupp

Chief Operations Officer

A go-getter at heart, Jessica is unwavering in her commitment to doing what’s right for Hansei. She stands up for integrity and leads by example, setting the standard for excellence in our organization.

Jessica has been with Hansei since the company’s inception in 2016. Perhaps one of the organization’s most versatile employees, she has worked in every area of the business gaining expertise in verification, eligibility, utilization review, outreach, and relationships. Her understanding of the fundamentals and mechanics of the revenue cycle process led her to transition into the COO role in 2019. Jessica is an active member of the billing subcommittee for the Addiction Treatment Advocacy Coalition (ATAC), which provides political and legal advocacy education and consumer protection. She studied English and psychology at The Ohio State University.

Patrick Dunn, MS, ICADC, PhD, abd

Chief Strategy Officer

With his infectious energy and determination, Patrick brings laughter and motivation to the forefront of our team. His drive to succeed inspires us all to strive for greatness and enjoy the journey along the way.

Patrick joined Hansei in 2021. Before joining the team, he held executive-level positions and consulting roles with treatment and recovery organizations around the country, including JourneyPure, Sierra Tucson (Acadia), The Blanchard Institute, Landmark Recovery, Lapaloma, and The Recovery Ranch (Promises). Patrick has clinical training and experience as a therapist, treating mental health and substance use disorders. He is an avid horse enthusiast and has consulted on equine therapy services for some of the nation’s leading treatment centers. His PhD abd from Capella University is focused on equine therapy with a co-occurring population in residential treatment.

Gayle Hanson

Chief People Officer

As the welcoming face of Hansei, Gayle effortlessly creates an atmosphere of safety and trust. Her warmth and authenticity make her an invaluable asset, fostering a workplace where honesty and reliability thrive.

Young Gale

Gayle joined Hansei in 2017. Her first role with the company was as the Utilization Review Manager. Her empathetic nature, hunger to learn, and embodiment of the company’s core values soon allowed her to take over the Human Resources department. After exceeding all expectations in HR and compliance and leading the overall company culture, she found herself in her current role as Chief People Officer. She is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and has earned the SHRM California HR Law Specialty Credential. She is currently pursuing her SHRM Certified Professional designation.

Terry Goertz

Chief Technology Officer

A true unicorn, Terry brings organization and passion to everything he does. Since joining in 2023, he’s exemplified a commitment to personal and professional growth, earning the trust of his peers with his unwavering dedication.

Terry has had an affinity for tech since childhood, and 15 years ago, he co-founded ParkVu Inc., which established wireless syncing music to smartphones and introduced consumer reaction data for entertainment giants like Billboard. As a champion of people, strategic analysis, and flawless implementation – he credits his success to team building and investing in human capital. He is thrilled to join Hansei as the company’s CTO, where he will own fiduciary responsibility for the enterprise technology budget, critically analyze investment decisions, and support the CEO as a right-hand technology and business expert.

Reid Halsey

Vice President of Finance

A trailblazer in finance and leadership, Reid’s initiative and drive set him apart. Whether it’s in his role or beyond, he leads with confidence and inspires us all to reach new heights. We’re grateful for his inspiring leadership and the positive impact he brings to our team.

Young Reid

Reid joined Hansei as the Vice President of Finance in April 2023. His experience in the finance industry has given him a reputation for being team-oriented, detailed, and charismatic. His skill set includes GL accounting, financial reporting, financial analysis, audits of financial statements, and ICOFR. He is driven by organization, continuous process improvements, and the mission of Hansei to move forward – always doing better. Reid attended Virginia Tech – Pamplin College of Business, receiving a BA in Accounting and Information Systems in 2018. He is a licensed CPA with the Virginia Board of Accountancy.

Hansei Leadership & Entrepreneurial Operating Systems Integration

Effective leadership is the foundation of success – for Hansei and Entrepreneurial Operating Systems (EOS), there is a thriving collaboration that projects and illustrates a story full of the transformative power of visionary leadership and efficient operational ability. Hansei’s relationship with EOS is more than a business arrangement; it is a calculated alliance between operational excellence and leadership principles – it is proof of the potential that is unlocked when systems and leaders come together.

The Hansei team participated in the 49th Business Today International Conference, a symbol of inspiration and mentorship for the upcoming generation of leaders. The conference theme, “Beyond the Horizon,” exemplifies Hansei’s mission of going forward and doing better. The team’s insights as a leaders serve as a guide for anyone trying to navigate the complex landscape of professional and personal development – making it possible for future leaders to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
