Chief People Officer

Gayle is the heart and soul of Hansei’s HR team. She started in the early days of the company, wearing many hats and building the HR department from the ground up. Her goal? To create a culture where people love coming to work. “Most people spend more time at work than they do with their families,” Gayle explains. “I wanted to build a company where employees feel appreciated, and not one where they dread getting a message from HR because they think they’re in trouble.”

What was your vision when starting at Hansei and creating an HR team?

“My vision was to create a company culture that was fun, creative, and felt like family,” Gayle says. She didn’t want Hansei to be like so many other companies that operate out of fear. Instead, she wanted to foster an environment where employees are happy to be at work. “If people like coming to work, they’ll do a great job for you and stay loyal.”

How has the HR department grown?

The HR department has expanded over the past couple of years, thanks in large part to Gayle’s philosophy of hiring smart people and trusting them to get the job done. “When I hired Whitney, I had her shadow me for a day and then asked her to tell me what she could take off my plate. She’s been a perfect fit, bringing the organization and structure that I needed.”

Whitney didn’t start her career intending to go into HR, but she quickly found her passion while working as a recruiter. “I fell in love with HR because I saw how Talent Acquisition gives people not just jobs but purpose,” she explains. After hearing about the work being done at Hansei from Gayle, she knew she had to be part of the team.

What attracted you most to working at Hansei?

“I’ve admired Hansei for a long time, especially because it’s a women-led company that genuinely supports working parents,” Whitney shares. “Many companies talk about work-life balance, but Hansei lives it. They make sure everyone has the flexibility they need.”

What does a typical day look like for you?

“My days are a whirlwind of emails, caffeine, and conversations,” Whitney laughs. As the HR Manager, she handles employee concerns, drafts policies, and works on improving processes to make things run more smoothly. “My favorite part is identifying areas for improvement and brainstorming ways to make things better.”

Whitney stays busy outside of work with her two young children, but she also makes time for her love of reading. Her goal for this year? Reading 95 books!
