Miles For Mental Health: 2023

Ready, set, run (or walk)!

Each of our employees had the opportunity to log the miles they walked or ran in an app called Charity Miles. For each mile completed, $1 was donated to our beneficiary, The Lynn House, a place near and dear to individuals at Hansei that provides a safe healing space for women in recovery in southern California.

Our involvement is driven by a strong commitment to raising awareness about mental health and contributing to positive societal change. We firmly believe that open conversations and increased understanding of mental health issues are vital to destigmatizing them and promoting well-being.

As part of our advocacy and fundraising for fair mental health treatment and resources, Hansei Solutions actively supports organizations and initiatives, like The Lynn House, that offer equal and affordable access to addiction and mental health services for all individuals. We also encourage our staff to prioritize their mental health by engaging in activities like walking, and we knew Miles For Mental Health was the perfect opportunity to get involved, give back, and sweat a lot.

Our Beneficiary: The Lynn House

The Lynn House is a sober living home in Southern California specifically designed to help women overcome the challenges of addiction and independence during recovery. The goal is to provide a nurturing environment for women to restore themselves physically, emotionally, spiritually, and socially. The house also allows them to search for work and plan ways to become independent outside the boundaries of the program.

As women undergo this transformative process, they personally benefit and can inspire and support the next woman who seeks refuge at The Lynn House. This ripple effect of restoration allows The Lynn House to create a strong foundation for these women and fosters a sense of community within the house.

The Lynn House is woman-led and has several former residents now serving on the board of directors. The program is volunteer-run and relies 100% on contributions in the form of money, supplies, and service. All donations go straight to the development of upgrading the property and adding more beds to help more women.

Each year, The Lynn House provides over 5000 nights of shelter and serves more than 15,000 meals to impoverished women in need. Running a home on contributions requires ongoing supplies, and The Lynn House encourages anyone to volunteer or donate supplies here.

Physical & Mental Benefits of Walking

Hansei Solutions is a big supporter of prioritizing personal mental health, and research shows that walking promotes the release of endorphins that stimulate relaxation and improve mood.

Walking and running have multiple physical health benefits. It can enhance cardiovascular health, aid in weight management, promote muscular strength and endurance, strengthen bones and joints, improve flexibility and coordination, increase energy levels, and improve sleep quality.

Walking provides a range of mental benefits as well. These activities stimulate the release of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which enhance mood and promote feelings of happiness. They have also been linked to improved cognitive function, including better memory, focus, and attention span.

Engaging in walking or running amidst nature or stimulating surroundings can foster increased creativity and enhance problem-solving abilities. Regular participation in these activities strengthens mental resilience, enabling individuals to cope more effectively with stress and adversity. Additionally, achieving personal fitness goals through walking or running boosts self-esteem and overall confidence.
