September marks National Recovery Month, a time when the nation unites to support individuals on their journey to recovery from addiction and mental health challenges. This month is about acknowledging the strength of the recovery community, celebrating stories of hope and healing, and advocating for evidence-based treatment practices.
As a catalyst for change and advocacy, Hansei is teaming up with The Bridge to Recovery to raise awareness for recovery month and funds through a Miles for Recovery Challenge.
This challenge is an initiative that encourages participation from all corners of our community. For every mile completed throughout the month of September, a donation will be made to The Bridge to Recovery. This challenge turns physical activity into a tangible contribution toward supporting individuals seeking recovery from mental health and substance abuse. It’s a reminder that every step taken carries the potential to make a positive impact in someone’s life.

“Recovery for me means I can drink from the cup of life and not get choked by the sludge of it. Recovery means freedom to be me. All of me.”
Shera Loeser

“Recovery for me has been a 35 year process and continues on to this very second. In the beginning it was all about getting sober and not using. For the first 10 years that was my only real focus. I would hear from others things like my drinking was only a symptom and that more work needed to be done but I was a slow learner. Eventually I reached a point in my life when just not drinking was not enough. I was still very angry at myself but I took it out on others. I thought getting sober was hard but becoming a better human being was 10 times harder.
Today recovery is being my true self. It’s allowing me to be okay with my choices and not beat myself up for them. It’s about trying to be kind to myself and others. It’s nurturing my relationships with my family and friends. Recovery is striving to be the best version of me. My life today isn’t perfect but it’s much richer and I am more present than I ever was before.”

“Recovery to me means a safe space where I can be honest with myself without judgement from others! Something I never knew was really possible but always needed in my life.”
